iMazing vs Decipher TextMessage: a phone manager you rent, or an exporter you buy
Both of these read the same thing, an iPhone backup, and both produce a document. The decision between them is not technical. iMazing is a whole phone manager rented for 49.99 USD a year; Decipher TextMessage is a message exporter bought once for 29.99 USD. That is the single fact that reshaped this market, and it is why so much advice recommending iMazing as a one time purchase is now wrong rather than merely old.
Read the last row of the table together with the first. Decipher publishes no number for its free tier, which makes it hard to know before paying whether the output suits you; iMazing’s twenty five messages tell you the shape of the document but never give you a whole conversation. Both stop before you have anything usable, which is the business model of this entire category rather than a complaint about either vendor.
Are they doing the same thing to your messages?
Broadly yes, and saying so plainly is more useful than manufacturing a difference.
Both open an Apple backup, both find the message database inside it, and both render conversations out of stored records rather than out of anything displayed on a screen. Both read an encrypted backup when you give them the password. Neither is reaching data the other cannot.
So the genuine differences are two, and neither is about the messages:
Scope. iMazing backs up and restores devices, manages apps and their data, moves photo libraries, extracts voicemail, transfers a phone to a new one and supervises fleets. Decipher exports messages. If you need the first list, the price difference stops looking like a price difference and starts looking like a different product, which it is.
WhatsApp. iMazing reads WhatsApp out of the phone backup. Decipher TextMessage does not, and its vendor sells that as a separate product, so a WhatsApp conversation means a second purchase decision rather than a setting.

Does iMazing do anything Decipher cannot?
A great deal, and none of it is about messages. Device backup and restore, app data, photo libraries, voicemail, phone to phone transfer and fleet supervision are all iMazing and none of them are Decipher. If those are on your list, the comparison is over and the answer is iMazing.
Can either of them open an encrypted backup?

Which one handles WhatsApp?
